The BEE FREE© project was started in 2007 and is rapidly becoming one of the most interesting and exciting concepts in veterinary software today. It all started when some Veterinarians working in practice and in para veterinary industries such as pharmaceuticals, finance, IT and accounting got together and began contemplating the information flow across these industries.
Suppliers, manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies desperately needed a platform where they could get feedback about their products in a timely and efficient manner and be able to supply their R & D and marketing departments information about how their products were being used out in the field. They also required an easy way to notify clinicians of new product releases and adverse reactions. Similarly, veterinary associations and bodies required key performance indicators about the industries they were serving, but experienced difficulty in obtaining the information in a consistent and efficient manner.
Veterinary clinics on the other hand, being small businesses by nature, were starting to have difficulty in keeping up with the current server based software revolution which was driving larger corporations such as NASA, Google and Yahoo. Clearly these smaller businesses would have to pool together to be able to afford such software.
Thus, in 2007, BEE FREE© beta was launched in its first practice as a free veterinary practice software platform for all veterinarians. The founders of the software were convinced that Yahoo Mail, Google Mail and many other free to use open source solutions such as PHP and MYSQL owed much of their success to their 'free to the end user' policy. Now, as a result of this, BEE FREE© has a statistically significant number of user veterinary clinics.
So what do you have to do to become part of this exciting and original project? No catch, simply by using it as your practice management software, you are helping BEE FREE© to strive towards making the veterinary profession more cost effective and efficient. BEE FREE© will do everything that you expect from a practice management solution (consultation notes, dispensing of products, booking of appointments, vaccination reminders, point of sale, multi practice linking etc.), and you have no obligation or contract to continue using it if you don't like it. It is web server based and driven by modern software platforms, so you can access your records reliably from anywhere (home or work or even on the move with an Internet ready mobile phone).
From the other end, BEE CENTRAL© software runs an 'intelligent advertising engine ©' which notifies clinicians of new product releases and gets opinion polls from users which helps pharmaceutical companies develop their products. Trends within the profession can be accurately analysed and given to veterinary associations which can then be filtered back down to clinics. This way practices can become aware of the trends within
their profession. BEE CENTRAL© also runs HIVEKEEPER© , purpose 'built in' software that assures anonymity when data analysis is performed. Individual practices can be assured that sensitive information is never disclosed. Furthermore, the BEE FREE© executive committee remains dominated by registered veterinary surgeons that are bound by a code of ethics that would preclude any unethical use of data.
The end result – timely, consistent and rapid information flow through multiple levels of an industry which saves the profession millions of dollars, drives forward clinical research and feedback on medications and allows a profession to monitor itself consistently.
